Drs. Ken and Marjorie Blanchard incorporated The Ken Blanchard Companies in 1979 with three simple goals—to make a difference in people’s lives, to drive human worth and effectiveness in the workplace, and to help each organization we work with become the provider, employer, and investment of choice.

1979 Blanchard Leadership Training and Development is Incorporated | Ken Blanchard
  • The Founding Associates (Ken Blanchard, Fred Finch, Pat Zigarmi, Don Carew, Drea Zigarmi, Eunice Parisi-Carew, Margie Blanchard and Laurie Hawkins) are formally named and acknowledged for the creation of the company and its intellectual property starting in 1979 and before. It was a bond of friendship, wanting to work with people we loved to make a difference, an idealistic sense that we could challenge conventional business wisdom by working with friends and relatives with a goal to make a more just and equitable world. 
  • Blanchard incorporates formally as Blanchard Training and Development, Inc.
1980
1980 One Minute Manager Training Book is Published | Ken Blanchard
  • Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson meet at a party and begin collaboration on The One Minute Manager
  • The One Minute Manager is self-published and sells 100,000 copies in its first year
  • A Situational Approach to Managing People is introduced as Blanchard's version of Situational Leadership®
  • Key clients for the year include Holiday Inn, Humana, and members of the Young Presidents Organization

1982 Blanchard Leadership Development Company Featured on the Today Show | Ken Blanchard
  • Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson appear on the Today Show
  • The One Minute Manager is published by William Morrow
  • Key clients for the year include Burger King, Chevron, and Lockheed
1985
1985 Situational Leadership Training Program Released
  • Situational Leadership® II is introduced based on new research and becomes our flagship offering
  • Leadership and the One Minute Manager is published by William Morrow, highlighting new research from Situational Leadership® II
  • Corning Glass, Nissan, and PG&E become key clients
1988
1988 The Power of Ethical Management Training Book Published | Ken Blanchard
  • Ken Blanchard and Norman Vincent Peale publish The Power of Ethical Management
  • Key clients for the year include AT&T, Autozone, Intercontinental Hotels, and McDonnell Douglas Helicopters
1990
1990 One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams Management Training Published
  • The One Minute Manager Builds High Performing Teams is published and becomes the catalyst for Blanchard’s comprehensive team building program
  • Key clients include GE Information Services, Hershey Foods, and Nestlé
1993
1993 Ken Blanchard Self Leadership Training Expands to Canada
  • Blanchard expands its footprint into Canada and establishes new Canadian headquarters
  • Blanchard launches Situational Self Leadership, a program that empowers individual contributors to become self leaders
  • Creating Your Organization’s Future program is introduced, bringing Blanchard into the mission, vision, and values space
  • Dow Chemical, Glaxo, IBM, BellSouth, and State Farm join Blanchard’s client roster
1998
1998 Ken Blanchard Self Leadership Training Expands to the United Kingdom and Europe
  • The Ken Blanchard Companies opens a wholly-owned office in the UK, marking the beginning of a European hub
  • Blanchard officially changes its name from Blanchard Training and Development to The Ken Blanchard Companies

2000
2000 Coaching.com Launches Online With Full Service Coaching Courses
  • Coaching.com, Blanchard’s full service coaching practice and website, opens for business
  • Amgen, Eli Lilly, and TJX become key clients
  • Situational Leadership® II 2000 is released
2005
2005 Ken Blanchard Inducted to Amazon.com Hall of Fame for Leadership Development Authorship
  • Ken Blanchard is inducted into Amazon.com Hall of Fame as a distinguished author
  • Product development kicks into high gear as Blanchard introduces several new products
  • Situational Frontline Leadership is named one of the Top 10 Products of the Year by Training Magazine
